Industrial dehumidification - what it is and where it is used

Dehumidifiers are used in industry in many ways. They regulate humidity in the air in workplaces and are used in the food, pharmaceutical, metallurgical industries, and many others. This article explains how they work, what technologies they are based on, and where they can be applied.

The operation of industrial dehumidifiers

Dehumidifiers are modular systems designed to remove moisture from the air and regulate humidity in many industrial production processes. Industrial dehumidification is also used to avoid condensation in rooms or containers for storing food or other substances. The main principle of operation is the use of two air streams independent of each other, the first of which is inflowing dry air and the other removes moisture through the operation of the dehumidifier’s rotor. Moisture from the air entering the rotor is removed by means of silica gel, which has a high level of hygroscopicity (susceptibility to moisture absorption). The hot air obtained in such a process is ready for use in many production processes.

The industrial application of humidity regulators

Dehumidifiers are used in many different industries, including:

  • the food industry - in order to maintain required hygiene standards for the workplace, such as preventing pollution or achieving the proper conditions required for food production;

  • the pharmaceutical industry - low air humidity is required due to the specific requirements in the production and storage of drugs, in particular tablets, powders and capsules. Dehumidifiers facilitate and improves this process;

  • the chemical industry - the required conditions for carrying out chemical production processes are easy to achieve using dry rooms;

  • the agricultural industry - for the protection and storage of seeds.
